Anna Arnar wrote an essay that has been translated into German for an exhibition catalogue sponsored by the Generali Foundation in Vienna, Austria. The English title of the exhibition and catalogue is Un Coup de dés. Writing Turned Image. An Alphabet of Pensive Language. The exhibition explores the legacy of Stéphane Mallarmé’s iconic poem “Un Coup de dés” (A Throw of the Dice) in the work of contemporary artists including Robert Barry, Lothar Baumgarten, Marcel Broodthaers, Rodney Graham, Ana Torfs, and Ian Wallace among others. The exhibition includes diverse media from painting, sculpture, photography to video, installation and performance; each of these works interrogates the dynamic tensions between text and image. The catalogue is published by Walther Köning (Cologne) and features an essay by the French philosopher Jacques Rancière as well as other art critics.
